The Brussels International Development Plan (2007) identified a certain number of infrastructure deficiencies that handicap the status of Brussels as an international capital. This situation is all the more regrettable as Brussels is determined to bolster this status and to offer maximum facilities to the institutions it hosts.
Against this background, the construction of a convention centre with an international dimension is bound to bolster business tourism, which already constitutes a major element of economic activity in the Brussels Region.
