January 2025: Make way for the future Sports Park !

Exit Royal Belgian Football Association, enter Sports Park !

Things are kicking off at the NEO Brussels site, starting with the demolition of the Royal Belgian Football Association’s former headquarters on Avenue Houba de Strooper in Laeken.

In its place will be the Parc des Sports and its:

  • a one-and-a-half hockey pitch with a 1,000-seat grandstand;
  • athletics training grounds with a 400-metre, 8-lane track – plus a 750-seat grandstand and equipment for all sports;
  • rugby and football pitch with a 5,000-seat grandstand;
  • club house;
  • water sports area;
  • waterfall-inspired water feature running across the site, connected to a storm basin;
  • a new building to house various sports associations, including the Belgian Olympic & Interfederal Committee.

The building had been empty since the Association’s relocation to its new offices in Tubize three years ago. Prior to that, it functioned as a temporary site for 220 students, over 30 teachers and other staff members of Kakelbont primary school in Laeken while their building was being renovated.

Once the students were back at their upgraded school, it was time to kick off work for the Parc des Sports!

Belgian football fans need not worry: they’ll be able to watch and cheer on their favourite players and athletes in Heysel Plateau’s future Parc des Sports!

Innovative and ambitious, NEO will change the face of the Heysel Plateau to create a new neighbourhood focused on delivering quality of life, economic development and international prestige for the Belgian capital.

The programme will feature a mixed urban environment, with international and national conventions and events and environmentally friendly housing that is accessible to all, plus shops, restaurants, indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, green spaces, culture and several thousand jobs.
