You cannot develop a new urban district without thinking about certain basic functions for families, such as nurseries.
Because if you want to build a liveable neighbourhood, you need to take each and every one of its residents into account.
In a residential and commercial district, all generations inevitably rub shoulders. And they need to be able to live in perfect harmony.
From the outset, the NEO project has always sought to integrate basic functions that are vital for living together in this new urban district. Did you know that NEO is creating 96 childcare places? And building a care home with 90 to 120 beds?
The NEO project includes the construction of two nurseries. Each for 48 children, and a care home with 90 to 120 beds (depending on who will operate it).
This is especially useful given the current childcare shortage (10,000 places!) in Brussels, according to the Ligue des Familles.
While NEO’s nurseries will not solve the current daycare shortage, 100 new places is no mean feat! Thanks to NEO, the district’s current and future residents as well as the staff of the facilities on the Heysel site will have access to these nurseries.
The examples of the daycare and care home illustrate the NEO project’s complementary functions.
And that is what makes a city such a great place to live ! A modern, connected city that offers a balanced mix of housing and work, urban development, shopping, leisure and housing facilities, personal care, etc.
